Tips on using PatriotCalendar to support your activities 2007/06/29 21:05

I'm starting this thread as a place where I'll post tips on using the various features at PatriotCalendar. I'll keep this thread locked -- just to keep it a running list of tips -- and I'll add new ones as I get time. Feel free to subscribe to this thread if you'd like to be emailed when I update it.
And by all means, if you come up with tips of your own, feel free to share them in the forums.
Thanks! Pam

The Patriot Files (located under the features menu) is a filesharing repository for documents and materials to be freely distributed in awareness campaigns. The Patriot Files fileshare is categorized and searchable to make locating materials for download easy.
If you have informational materials you'd like to make available for others to download, please go to The Patriot Files and upload them by clicking 'Submit File'.
You can apply a Creative Commons license to your file, which is basically a blanket authorization for downloaders to distribute your file under certain conditions. To allow the most unrestricted distribution of your material, choose the licensing option "Allow commercial use / Allow modifications" during the upload process.
Be sure to mention any *attritubtion* requirements (to whom and how to give credit) when you fill out the document description during upload.
Now, a really cool tip:
The files you share will be linked from your member profile (on the "Files" tab). So let's say you, personally, upload a collection of files and you want to share your specific collection with friends and fellow organizers.

Tip #2: The Importance of Usernames Without Spaces 2007/06/29 21:33

The reason we can't support spaces in member names is because (basically) web servers and web browsers generally don't like spaces in URL's. There are programming workarounds that could allow this, but the development involved is fairly tricky. Our system is built to generate "friendly" (more humanly readable) URL's, but it can't accomodate spaces.
To sum that up...
If you have spaces in your member name, your "friendly" Profile URL won't work properly. Also, spaces in a member name causes an error when other members request a Connection to you.
If you need to change your member name (username), you can. Go to Community | My Profile | Edit: Update Your Profile then the 'Contact Info' tab.

Note: When adding videos to the Box Office tab on your member profile, simply enter the video ID # without the enclosing tags.

Visit the 'Settings' link at the bottom of your Private Messages inbox screen. There you'll find options for receiving email notifications about new private messages.
